Jury weighing life or death for convicted killer in Dearborn robbery
A 10-woman, two-man jury began deliberations this afternoon that could end with a death sentence of a convicted bank robber.
After U.S. District Court Judge Victoria Roberts gave the jurors more than an hour of instructions, the panel was led away to decide if killer Timothy Dennis O'Reilly should face death at a federal prison in Indiana. If they cannot unanimously agree on that punishment, O'Reilly faces life in prison without the possibility of release.
They were released just after 3:30 p.m. and will resume deliberations Wednesday morning.
A federal prosecutor and a defense attorney strongly disagreed on both how to characterize O'Reilly's life and crime and on what an appropriate punishment would be.
