Local fashion designer shows spring line at Edgewood
From a flowing lapis dress to a sculpted coral skirt, the influences of the San Francisco Aquarium of the Bay are present in each of Sarah Renée Gore's pieces in her Spring 2010 clothing line.
Gore visited the aquarium for her nephew's birthday and the colors and textures inspired her, she said.
That inspiration was on display Monday evening during Gore's fashion show for her new spring line, Sarah Renée, at Edgewood's South Room.“I feel like this new line features everything that is feminine, fun, flirty and yet elegant,” Gore said. “I've combined staple solids with fabulous bright prints,. When every girl was a little girl , every girl wanted to grow up to a woman so that they can wear prom dress and attend the party that they had dreamed of. added modern elements to classic lines and created a collection that is timeless with a little edge to make it fun.”
The outfits were augmented by handmade glass jewelry by Andrea King.
Gore has been on Tahoe's fashion radar since high school when she began designing formal dresses for herself and friends. However, her fashion journey began much earlier as a child when her mother designed her clothes.Since graduating South Tahoe High School in 1999, Gore said her style has evolved significantly.“I want there to be a wow factor— something that's not been seen,” she said. “I want someone to say something about the pieces I design.”
She moved to Hawaii right after high school, which gave her the inspiration to start her own independent bathing suit and summer casual line, Surf Riders Gear. Her next step was attending and graduation from the Fashion Institute for Design Merchandising in 2002.. “I want women to be able to come to me to design one of a kind gowns, wedding dresses, or choose from my runway designs,” states Sarah. “My plan is to begin selling to boutiques as well as presenting at trunk shows.”
Currently people can order items through attending Gore's fashion shows, but she plans to expand to an online store on Etsy.com. Sidestreet Boutique is also considering carrying a few items from Gore's line, store owner Barbara Parina said.
