I ended my previous article with the observation that we need a better idea to tackle the Maoist problem. It is not easy to find a new and better idea. For one, most new ideas fail. For that reason, the bestseller biography Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson is very inspiring. Against heavy odds, Mortenson built a school in an impoverished village, Korphe, in Baltistan, in the Northern Territory of Occupied Kashmir.
Mortenson, who failed to climb K2 (the second highest peak in the world), lost his guide and missed his way back from the peak. He drifted into Korphe, a poor village on the slopes of the mountain.. Moved by the hospitality of the villagers and finding that the village had no school, he promised to build them one.
