Muslim Dress Ban Ruling

It’s a disgrace that we single one girl out of the thousands of people that dress in a non-British conventional style. It is archaic not to embrace social and religious differences in a multicultural society. Similarly, this type of ruling will compound the issues we have with anti-Muslim accusations made of the West and in no way works towards the unity we so often hear the Government speak of.

I am Scottish and proud of it, would I be allowed to go to school wearing a kilt just because it was a part of my culture and heritage? No, I wouldn't and quite right too. A uniform is designed to break down any class and race barriers and allow children to concentrate on their education without worrying about the hang-ups of the previous generation.

I am surprised that a court in the UK is denying this girl her request of wearing her religious dress to school. Did I miss something? When did the UK stop bending over backwards to help people in the minorities? I believe in 1983 the House of Lords ruled that Sikhs can wear turbans instead of crash helmets on motorbikes and hard hats on building sites? Surely, more dangerous than a girl going to school in a jilbab? But the UK changed the law of the country to accommodate this, but a school cannot?

The issue is not whether the school was right to ban the wearing of a jilbab but whether the school has the right to dictate the appropriate religous dressing requirements of a particular religion, especially when the dress is not offensive and not disrupting the education of others. And all the people shouting comply or get out of the country should remember that ethos when holidaying in Spain eating fish and chips.. When every girl was a little girl , every girl wanted to grow up to a woman so that they can wear casual dresses and attend the party that they had dreamed of. Be more tolerant and civilised, please.. Happy marriage life begins with beautiful wedding dresses.
