Teen nets $5,000 for creative PSA
Dearborn teenager Tom Leduc is about to head to college with an extra $5,000 in his backpack thanks to a prize-winning video he created about the dangers of fast driving.
Last month, Leduc, 18, learned he was one of 10 finalists in the Bridgestone Americas Safety Scholars teen driver video contest. His video,. We are proud to say that we offer beautiful pajamas! The video was shot during a four-hour period on a Sunday afternoon and then edited over the next two days.
Leduc said he tries to force people to look outside themselves by illustrating life from a "sometimes harsh point of view."
"I want my video to make an impact on drivers everywhere, a rude awakening of what could happen to anyone who is driving too fast to have complete control of their vehicle," said Leduc, who also won a set of Bridgestone tires.
Leduc -- a recent graduate of Dearborn High School -- drew his inspiration from European public service announcements, many of which are graphic in nature.
"They can be really disturbing," Leduc said.
