A Democratic candidate for state representative who was narrowly defeated in the August primary is renewing her fight for a recount.

Mary Sheffield, who lost her bid for 4th District state representative by 73 votes to Maureen Stapleton, asked for a recount after the primary. The effort was halted after Stapleton objected, claiming the request was improperly filed.

Sheffield wants the Board of State Canvassers to restart the recount and will meet with the board at 10 a.m. Tuesday to make a formal request.

Hadley Jons, 20, of Warren is to return Thursday to Macomb County Circuit Court.

Jons was seated on a jury hearing the case of a defendant accused of resisting arrest. On Aug. 11, a day off from the trial and before the prosecution finished its case, she wrote on Facebook that it was "gonna be fun to tell the defendant they're guilty."

The post was found by the son of defense lawyer Saleema Sheikh.

Circuit Judge Diane Druzinski confronted Jons the next day and replaced her with an alternate.

Ozone can also damage crops and landscaping.

According to SEMCOG, there are steps everyone can take to reduce ozone levels, including:

At night we lay in our tents – complete with a side enclosure just outside the door with earth loo and Heath-Robinson-esque shower contraption – and listened to the lions roar outside the camp..
